Allium Sativa (Garlic) - is an important food for aiding in the prevention and reversal of coronary atherosclerosis. Garlic lowers blood pressure (roughly 8-11 mm Hg systolic and 5-8 mm Hg diastolic), raises HDL(good) cholesterol and lowers LDL (bad) cholesterol, and has an anticoagulant effect -- resulting in an inhibition of platelet aggregation. Raw (not cooked)garlic should be used liberally in the diet.
